NAME

ftp - How to transfer files to and from NannyMUD.

DESCRIPTION

The ftp is located at mud.lysator.liu.se 2345. Login using
your wizard name and password. This eminent server is written
in Perl. It will accept files less than 1Mb only, but that
        should be more than enough.

        FTP PROGRAMS
Naturally, to ftp things you need a ftp program. Most systems
provides one out of the box. Here's a list of some system and
        their programs.

        UNIX:
The standard ftp programs seem to work well with our ftp
          server.

        Windows95/NT:
The standard ftp ptogram provided with them should work, but
there are better, shareware, programs available:
          + Bulletproof FTP www.bpftp.com
          + Cute FTP cuteftp.com

          They have extensive help built-in.

        Macintosh
The program to use is named Fetch.

        USING A WEB BROWSER
If you have a web browser that supports ftp, you might try to
access your files through that. You have to specify an URL
        like:

        ftp://wizname:password@mud.lysator.liu.se:2345

so anyone looking at your monitor can see your password. This
is not recommended. Some browsers allows you to both download
and upload files; learn ftp instead.

NOTE

In order to use the ftp, you must be manually added to a list by the
arches. To be granted access, you have to have limited your access
using addhost. In order for this to be granted, no pattern in your
addhost list must have more than two wildcards.

NOTE

You should read the documentation for your ftp program!

NOTE

You should use 'passive mode' in your ftp program.

NOTE

We cannot provide support for any kind for your ftp program!

NOTE

There is ftp-handling availaible in GNU emacs, the powerful text
        editor. It is called 'ange-ftp'.

NOTE

Most WWW browsers will just allow you to download files.
